Dave L., your conclusions about my allegiance to Bush are as lame as most of the conclusions in your impeachment argument. Strident conclusions and absolute certainties based on circumstantial evidence and wrought from personal biases and loathing of Bush & Co., hardly make for an intelligent debate.
For the record (not that you care), I am no fan of Bush and do not support him. Never did. I am not a Republican. I think he was a mediocre president, at best. Yet here I am, apparently "subservient to the Bush cabal", making ignorant arguments about the American constitution and the rules of impeachment based on my slavering loyalties to Bush. You've proven my point about drawing flawed conclusions from abstract evidence.
An impeachment of Bush would be a kangaroo court, driven by Democrats/liberals for entirely political purposes. You say the enthusiasm for it is only tempered by the need to address the current economic meltdown, so it's on hold. Having read your post and looked at some others relating to this impeachment argument, I stll see ONLY interpretations of what's on the public record, not definitive proof of actual motive. Bush's motive is what you're railing about, yet I see no real evidence towards motive (i.e. no meeting minutes between Bush/Cheney and Big Oil, no direct quotes from oil indutry execs, no copies of internal memos detailing promises of financial gain for corporations like Halliburton, etc. etc.). I don't see the evidence proving the "high crimes and misdemeanors" aspect of the impeachment argument.
Based on the public record, you're better to make the case for incompetence. That I could support.
If you like drawing conclusions from abstract data, here's one I've drawn: this impeachment business was a strategic issue designed to disparage the Republican Brand leading up to the election. Now that Obama has been elected, this impeachment issue will die. We'll never see it come to pass. Why? Because it's bogus - and its sponsors know it would not succeed.
